An assortment of paper leaf cutouts, each decorated with a marbled pattern of swirling pink, yellow, blue, and green paints, lies on a light woodgrain surface. The leaves vary in shape and size, resembling different types of leaves. This image likely depicts the result of a marbling art project.

Creating these marbled leaves is great fun! Of course, if it happens to be autumn and you've collected lots of fallen leaves, using real leaves will make it even more natural. This craft is quite simple - just press leaves into shaving foam and paint, then scrape them off to create unique marble patterns!

Materials Needed

  • Shaving foam
  • acrylic paint
  • scissorsv
  • printable template
  • plate
  • scraper (clean ruler)
  • lolly stick
An overhead flatlay image displays craft supplies arranged on a light woodgrain table. These supplies include a sheet of paper with various leaf outlines printed on it, a pair of black scissors, a wooden craft stick, a small green and dark blue can labeled FOA three small tubes of adhesive, and a small white spatula or scraper. A white rectangular tray holds the scissors and craft stick. The arrangement suggests preparation for a leaf-themed craft project.

Step-by-step tutorial

Step 1

Using scissors, carefully cut out the leaf shapes from the printable template.

A hand holds a piece of white paper with outlines of various leaf shapes printed on it against a light woodgrain background. A pair of scissors is cutting out one of the leaf shapes from the bottom right corner of the paper. The image suggests the beginning of a craft project involving paper leaf cutouts.
Step 2

Squeeze shaving foam onto the plate.

A white rectangular tray on a light woodgrain table holds a swirled mass of white foam or cream. The texture appears light and fluffy. The image suggests a craft or sensory activity, possibly involving shaving cream, whipped cream, or a similar substance.
Step 3

Squeeze different colours of acrylic paint onto the shaving foam.

A white rectangular tray sits on a light woodgrain table. Inside the tray, a layer of white foam or cream is swirled, and drops of yellow, red, blue, and green paint have been added to the surface. The paint appears to be slightly mixed in some areas, creating streaks of color. This setup suggests a sensory or art activity, possibly marbling or creating patterns with paint and foam.
Step 4

Use the lolly stick to swirl the acrylic paint.

On a light woodgrain table, a white rectangular tray contains a bed of white foam or cream. Swirls of yellow, red, blue, and green paint have been marbled throughout the foam, creating a vibrant and abstract pattern. The image suggests a marbling art activity.
Step 5

Place the cut-out paper leaves onto the shaving foam mixture, ensuring they're fully covered.

A white rectangular tray rests on a light woodgrain table. The tray contains white foam or cream, marbled with swirls of yellow, red, blue, and green paint. A small white spatula or scraper is partially submerged in the foam on the right side, suggesting it was used to create the marbled effect. The scene depicts a marbling art activity in progress.
Step 6

Remove the paper leaves from the foam and use the scraper to remove excess foam mixture.

On a light woodgrain table, a white sheet of paper features several red and green apple prints, each adorned with googly eyes and simple, drawn-on arms and legs, giving them the appearance of dancing or moving apples. Above the paper lie two cut apple halves, one red and one green, the tools used to create the prints. This charming scene showcases a completed apple printing art project for children.
Step 7

Now your handmade leaves are complete - try designing different patterns using various colours!

Several leaf shapes cut from paper, decorated with a marbled pattern of pink, yellow, blue, and green, are arranged on a light woodgrain background. The leaves vary in shape and size. The marbled effect suggests they were created using a paint and foam marbling technique.
