Autumn is the perfect time to collect fallen leaves - but what can you do with them? This excellent nature education activity helps children learn about different types of leaves while bringing them to life with simple, easy-to-source materials by creating delightful leaf monsters.

Materials Needed

  • White paper coloured paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Pencil
  • Leaves
  • Googly eyes
  • White glue
An assortment of craft supplies lies on a light wooden table, arranged for a flat lay photograph. A large sheet of bright yellow construction paper is positioned on the left. To the right are a pair of small, white-handled scissors, a bottle of white glue, a set of small, stick-on googly eyes, a white marker, a pencil, and a cluster of green and yellow-green leaves. These materials suggest preparation for a nature-themed craft project.

Step-by-step tutorial

Step 1

Use glue to attach leaves to coloured card paper and wait patiently for the glue to dry.

Six leaves are arranged on a bright yellow piece of paper, which rests on a light wood grain surface. The leaves are arranged in two rows of three. The top row features three vibrant green leaves, while the bottom row shows a light green leaf, a darker green leaf, and a yellow leaf. This image likely depicts a nature-based activity, perhaps for educational purposes, showcasing the variety and color changes in leaves.
Step 2

Draw monster mouths and teeth on white paper, then cut them out.

A hand draws small, connected triangles along the bottom edge of a blank white sheet of paper. Another hand holds the paper steady on a light wood grain table. The hand drawing uses a short pencil with blue and white dots. This image likely depicts the beginning stages of a drawing or craft project.
Step 3

Arrange and stick googly eyes on your leaf however you like - your leaf monster is starting to take shape!
