Try making paper pumpkins this Halloween! It's not complicated to create, and you can start a last-minute rush as Halloween approaches. You only need to fold and glue some paper pieces to make 3D pumpkins and bats, which is great for exercising children's hand-eye coordination and patience.
- Age: 6-8
- Time: 30 minutes - 1 hour
- Mess Level: A Bit Messy
- Adult supervision required
Materials Needed:
- Coloured Cardstock
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Double-Sided Tape
- Straws
- Googly Eyes
- Watercolour Markers
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Cut out 28 black circular pieces of cardstock, 14 each for the top and bottom layers
- Fold each circular card twice and apply double-sided tape on top
- Fold all the circular cards this way and stick them together (Note: Don't stick all the circular cards together, leave half of the cards for making the bottom layer). Stick the prepared top layer cards onto a straw
- Hold both ends and stick them together. During this process, you can adjust the space between each petal. Once adjusted, you'll have the top layer of the bat's body.
- Repeat steps 2-4 to make the bottom layer of the bat's body and stick it to the straw
- Fold two circular black cardstock pieces in half, cut out the shape of bat wings, then apply double-sided tape as shown in the picture, and stick them to the bat's body. Don't forget the bat's ears - cut out a pair of triangles and stick them on.
- After attaching the bat wings, take out yellow cardstock to cut out the bat's eyes and stick them on. Now you have a bright-eyed little bat!
- Using this method, we can also make a cute little pumpkin. However, for the pumpkin's head, don't cut off the straw - just twist it to create the pumpkin's vine.
