You've surely seen Christmas trees made from cones before—there are many ways to decorate them. Today we'll be using cotton wool, small coloured baubles, and some fairy lights to create a Christmas tree night light. This activity is very simple and will keep children thoroughly engaged.

  • Age: 6-8
  • Time: Less than 1 hour
  • Messiness level: A bit messy

Materials Needed:

  • White Glue
  • Small Coloured Baubles
  • A4 Paper or White Card
  • Cotton Wool
  • Fairy Lights
  • Pen
  • Scissors
Gather your materials for some festive crafting! A bowl of cotton balls, colourful pom-poms, glue, a piece of paper, a pencil, and scissors are arranged on a light wood surface, ready to create a magical Christmas tree night light. Let's get making!

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Place the A4 paper flat on the table with the short edge facing you. Starting from one corner, roll the paper inwards to form the base of a cone. Continue rolling until you've created your desired cone shape. The size of the base depends on how tightly you roll the paper. Secure the edge of the cone with glue or tape to maintain its shape.
  2. Shaping the festive base! A pair of hands carefully rolls a sheet of white paper into a cone shape, creating the foundation for a delightful Christmas tree night light. Onwards and upwards!
  3. Cut off any excess paper from the cone so it can stand upright on the table.
  4. Snip, snip, hooray! A pair of hands carefully trims the excess paper from a cone shape, ensuring a neat and precise finish for the festive night light project. Nearly ready for the next step!
  5. Evenly brush a layer of white glue over the surface of the cone.
  6. Getting sticky! A hand carefully applies glue to the inside of a paper cone, preparing it to hold the fluffy cotton-ball Christmas tree. Nearly ready for the festive fluff!
  7. Pull the cotton wool into small tufts and stick them onto the cone.
  8. Adding the fluffy magic! Hands carefully and lovingly attach cotton balls to the paper cone, creating the charming, snowy texture of a miniature Christmas tree. It's starting to look festive!
  9. Draw a star on paper, cut it out, and stick it along with some small coloured baubles onto the Christmas tree as decorations.
  10. A delightful miniature Christmas tree, crafted from cotton balls and brightly coloured pom-poms, sits proudly on a light wood surface, topped with a cheerful yellow star. Ready to spread some festive cheer!
  11. Attach the fairy lights to the inside of the Christmas tree, switch them on, and turn off the room lights. Your Christmas tree night light is now complete.
